June Meeting Night

QQ Inc held its June meeting last Friday night at Letchworth. It was well attended, with much lively discussion about numerous issues the Members are involved in and some preparation for next month's AGM. Our speaker was Helen Worth who talked a bit about how she got started and continued with her embroidery.

She had lots of samples to show us of what she has done and expressed willingness to show anyone how to do it themselves.

During
Show and Tell, some members showed what they had made during Moni's demonstration of the Fractured Quilt.

Julie Herring showed some of her innovative course work she's been doing.

Thanks to Kay White, there were lots of gift quilts to show, all quilted now and with bindings machine-sewn on ready for members to take home and in their own time hand-sew the binding to the back. There is no rush to return them ladies, we know you lead busy lives. The meeting broke for people to collect a drink and some of the abundant supper available while they continued to look at Helen's work and chat amongst themselves.

Fractured Block Night

Friday 6 June 2014

Drop-in Day

This morning was the first Thursday in the month so a good number of people dropped in to the RB Smith Centre for a bit of a chat and a sew/stitch/cut/knit session. Such a wide range of interests our members have, coming along to our sessions is a great chance to find out more about all sorts of arty/crafty activities. Morning tea was particularly yummy, thank you to the ladies who cooked for us.

Today, Nel Donaldson showed us what she had stitched together so far. It is bright and happy and looks fabulous. This is her first quilt so it is very impressive what she has managed to do. Narell taught her how to cut fabric and now she is well away with her quiltmaking. (Rotary cutters are scary and dangerous when you first come across them.) Nel says there are two more rows to be sewn on to the top we can see here.  She subscribes to The Art of Quilting and each week receives fabric and a pattern to make a block, along with other information. If you are a beginner, this may work for you too so have a look at it on the link below. There are certainly a lot of lovely blocks to make on the site and more coming out all the time.

Keep up the good work Nel.

Next drop-in day is in two weeks, on the 19th June.

Queanbeyan Quilters Inc Block Night

Tomorrow night, Friday 6th June is Block Night at Queanbeyan Quilters Inc. What do you need and what will we do? Here are some choices:

1. Bring your usual threads and tools and also your
sewing machine, if you machine piece.

2. Make your own block using three or more fabrics of your own, ensuring there is distinction between them, such as a light, medium and a dark, plain colours and patterned or striped.

3. Bring black, white and lime green fabrics in any combination which are distinct from each other and make a block for our Gift Quilt programme.

One of our experienced patch workers will bring along instructions for the block of the night.

4. Alternatively you can bring along a picture of the block you want to make and get assistance with making it or rescaling it.
