Picking up the New Year

Hello quilt enthusiasts, I do hope you all had a pleasant break from routine and are ready for the new year ahead. For Queanbeyan Quilters, it is going to be busy, as we prepare to put on our Exhibition at the Bicentennial Hall the week before Easter. There are small Challenge quilts to be made using the same piece of fabric but in a style related to our different theme books. There are quilts to make, bind, label and hang. There are entries to decide upon, it has been so long since our last Exhibition that some of us will have to form a shortlist for inclusion. There are raffle tickets to be sold. There is the design to fine tune, in the new look Hall interior. We hope it will be a joyful, colourful occasion and that you will come and visit us to find out what we have been up to.

Today was a low-key beginning, one of our drop-in days at Letchworth where we enjoyed social stitching with other members and a guest, spread out wide in our spacious, light-filled room.

Dianne showed us her work, freshly quilted and now being bound. She could not resist buying the paua fabric last year and it was delightful to see it in this easy but effective small quilt. The meandering quilting enhanced the sea life flavour of the quilt, reminiscent of watery tendrils.
Dacia has started binding a small gift quilt, hand sewing it to the back and fixing the label in place. Over the break she has been able to start on her challenge and finish binding two other quilts. Next to Dacia more binding is taking place, on a cute, colourful, modern quilt.
Leanne joined us today, working on her small creative sewing pieces. Bryony continued to work on her charming hexagons swap which have been entrancing our members for a while now.
The calendar is now up showing all the sessions and events for the year. If you care to join us, come along to any of them. If you are in Queanbeyan, you may see us out and about selling raffle tickets for the next couple of months. Have a chat to us and tell us what quilting you have been doing. Or ask us to help you progress to the next stage of your personal quilting journey.
